A Scottish landowner is planning to create a Highlands wildlife reserve stocked with brown bears, wolves, and lynx.

Paul Lister, who has already introduced moose on to his estate, plans to repopulate it with animals not seen in Britain for hundreds of years.

“When you have radical ideas like this, people think you’re a crackpot,” he told the BBC.

“What I’m aiming to do is to create a wilderness and wildlife reserve similar to those that exist in Southern Africa; something that is controlled, managed and fenced.

“It is nothing like Britain or Europe has ever seen before.”

A pair of moose have recently arrived from Sweden and have been settling into a 450 acre enclosure within Mr Lister’s Alladale Estate.

He says there is still much to do before larger predators can be brought in, but believes the reserve could be up and running in two to five years.

According to local news sources Romanian farmer was seen using a 122mm live missile as an anvil.

Apparently he dug it up in his garden several months ago and has been using it as an anvil ever since. Farmer from Puieni village, Giurgiu county has been using this “anvil” for sharpening hoes and scythes.

News report say that the explosive specialists found that the missile was still active. They said that “if it had detonated the explosion would have endangered not only him and his family but his neighbors too.”

In his statement for the local news spokesman for the firefighters said: “We’ve had many problems because of these unexploded bombs which have been in the ground since the Second World War but this is really crazy.

“How can you hit a bomb with the hammer? It could have exploded any time.”

Army bomb squad destroyed the missile in a controlled explosion, which left our farmer without an anvil. He’s happy that’s all he lost, considering what might have happened.

A Chinese man says he’s had the same snail as a pet for 11 years - and takes it for walks.

Yang Jinsen has now had his pet for twice the normal life span of a snail, reports the Southern Metropolis News.

Yang, a migrant worker in Dongwan city, found the snail by the roadside on his way home from school in 1997.

Back then, he was 14 and the snail was the size of a small coin. Now, he’s a married man and the snail fills the palm of his hand.

“I built a small home for it in the yard, and fed it water and soil,” he said.

“On weekends, I would take it walking in the fields, and in the evenings I would put it on my desk, playing with it while doing my homework.”

Last year, he married and moved to Dongwan to work: “I got permission from my wife to bring the snail with me to the new city,” he added.

Experts say it’s amazing for a snail to live so long and say it could be because it has been so well looked after.
